Did you know? Many US acupuncturists hold masters-level degrees

An acupuncture degree is a bigger deal than you might think. In the US, most Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine schools require their applicants to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school. A graduate degree in acupuncture takes about 3 years to acquire. This is the same amount of post-graduate training as a physician’s assistant, although the material covered is slightly different.

Other countries have different requirements to practice acupuncture. In the United Kingdom, for example, acupuncturists may have varying levels of education, including a license, a diploma, a bachelor’s degree, or a master’s degree.

If you’re not sure how much education your clinician has, ask. It’s important to know if your practitioner has the skills and experience you need.
